Relais Bernard Louiseau - A Gem
Curator’s statement

What a surprise. I found this hotel while doing research for spas in Burgundy for a trip my wife and I were taking. The week before we visited my wife was with her French colleagues and they said if you go anywhere in burgundy stay at Relais Bernard Louiseau. They were right! We were also the only non-French tourists at the hotel which was cool and felt like a local experience.

This hotel first started off as just a restaurant, one of the highest-rated in France. It has between two and three Michelin stars at any time. They then added on a hotel and most recently in 2017 an incredible spa. The hotel was very French country vibes. The room was large compared to Europe standards and comfortable. My wife didn't like the bed, but I didn't mind it.

The best things here are the spa and restaurant. If you are into spas, you will be in love with this hotel. The spa is modern and has every therapy you can think of, and then some from the cold pool plunge to the beachside room (salt therapy), showers with essential oils and a Moroccan hammam. Also, a huge indoor pool with 1000 jets and an outdoor spa and pool. I was in heaven.

The town of Saulieu is small and cute. We walked around the entire town one morning and visited the delicious cheese shop and boulangerie. So delicious. The town is also right in the center of Moravan Park so there are so many outdoor activities. My wife and I went horseback riding through the park. It was so much fun and beautiful. We were also the first American tourists our tour guide had worked with since pre-covid.

This hotel was a 3-hour drive from Paris. I believe it was 100% worth it and recommend it to people who are into nature, small towns and spas!
