The views over rooftops in Prague.
Curator’s statement

A close second, and perfect pairing, to my favorite city Budapest is Prague! This city is doused in gorgeous and charming architecture. I particularly love this city because it is extremely walkable, making it easy to explore everything in just three days. My favorite thing in the city is the quintessential Old Town Square, sitting at a cafe people-watching and hearing the Astronomical Clock go off at the top of the hour. I recommend you pair this with my Budapest itinerary as well as Prague's neighboring cities Bratislava, Vienna and Munich for the ultimate extended East-Central European vacation!

Day 1: Shopping and drinks

Prague street at night

Prague, the city of romantic architecture, vibrant nightlife and culture awaits! First things first, drop off your luggage at your hotel and let the fun begin.

To start your day, make a beeline for Vysehrad, a historic fortress that towers over Prague and its beloved Vltava River. Explore the nooks and crannies, from the sturdy buildings to lush parks and even a vineyard! The best part? Free entry to the compound, but if one of the buildings in particular catches your fancy, pay a small entrance fee to enjoy the delights within. I suggest visiting the Basilica of St. Peter and St. Paul!

Now, take a leisurely riverside stroll and behold the marvel that is Dancing House. This architectural oddity will intrigue you with its unique design, resembling a pair of dancers. For lunch, secure a spot at the Ginger and Fred restaurant nestled within. And for the cherry on top, head up to the rooftop terrace, glass bar for lovely dessert cocktails and uninterrupted cityscape views. Cheers to that!

Afternoon rejuvenation calls for a fusion of relaxation and libations. Treat yourself to a unique spa experience at the Original Beer Spa - Zitna. Picture this: luxuriating in a wooden tub brimming with warm beer, hops and other natural ingredients. As you soak, enjoy the luxury of your own personal beer tap and munch on complimentary bread. And trust me, lounging on the large straw bed is the best way to cap off this experience. Pro tip: Bring a dark-colored swimsuit and rinse it thoroughly post-soak.

Now that you are refreshed, unleash your inner shopaholic on Wenceslas square. Indulge in retail therapy and then grab some souvenirs at the Havelske Trziste market. Refuel and grab dinner at Deer Restaurant, with its creative spin on traditional dishes. Oh, and save room for the whimsical desserts like Forest, Golden Egg and Astronomical Clock.

At night, it is time to immerse yourself in the mysterious ambiance of Prague's nightlife and cocktail scene! Begin at The Alchemist Bar and sip on its enchanting concoctions in a cozy atmosphere. When the time is right, venture over to Anonymous Bar. If you play your cards right and charms the serves, you might just witness a fiery drink show and uncover its secret menu!

Day 2: Culture and history

Charles Bridge over river in Prague before sunset with boat in water.

Rise and shine on day two with a breakfast adventure aboard the stationary boat restaurant, Marina Ristorante. You'll be feasting on delicious food while soaking in gorgeous views of Prague Castle. Just remember, this place only accepts cash, so bring plenty Czech Koruna with you. If you're running low, there is an ATM aboard, but beware - the fees are steep. Once your caffeine cravings are satisfied and your belly is full, it's time to walk over to the Prague Jewish Quarter. Immerse yourself in the rich tapestry of history and culture woven by this prolific Jewish community. Pay a visit to the synagogues, the Jewish Cemetery or the Holocaust Memorial.

Now, time to flex those shopping muscles in Prague's high-end retail haven, Parizska Street. Prepare to splurge and treat yourself at the many designer boutiques and luxury stores. If you are bursting at the seams with bags, drop off your treasure trove back at your hotel before venturing forth.

Next stop: offbeat and really unique places. Head to the Prague Municipal Library and ascend the stairs to witness the "never-ending" book stack. Strike a pose and capture this literary delight before heading over to Prague City Hall, don't worry, this is not your typical government building. Wander inside to the back to experience and ride the Paternoster elevator, a time machine in its own right. Watch your step!

Keep the good times rolling with a short but wonderful tour of the Klementium Library, one of the most beautiful I have seen, very scholarly! Refuel at The Pub Praha 1, where traditional pub meets interactive fun. Pour you own pint of the restaurant's famous Pilsner beer from the taps built into your table. It's a DIY pub experience fit for a beer connoisseur.

With a satisfied stomach, make your way to the beating heart of Prague, Old Town Square. Feast your eyes on the splendid architecture and bright-colored buildings that surround you. Don't forget to snap a selfie with the infamous Astronomical Clock and witness its hourly spectacle. As you explore, let the irresistible aroma of Trdelniks lure you to the market stalls - these fried dough chimneys are to die for! And for an epic view of the square, ascend to the Hotel U Prince rooftop and grab an afternoon drink.

Once you've had your fill of the square (if that's even possible), head south and be on the lookout for a towering 7-foot statue of Sigmund Freud hanging above your heads. Capture a picture of this hidden gem and then set sail on a romantic hour-long cruise along the Vltava River, just as the sun begins to set.

After the cruise, head to Hemingway Bar, my personal favorite cocktail den in Prague! For dinner, satisfy your cravings with a traditional Czech feast at Restaurant Mlenjice. Make sure to make reservations in advance, as this place is near the square and quite popular. Finally, put on your dancing shoes and seek out the hidden, underground bar at James Dean. Get ready to unleash your inner diva and belt out universally nostalgic tunes all night long!

Day 3: Architecture and views

prague czech republic sunset city city bridge

It is time to kick-start your final day in Prague with breakfast at or near your hotel. Fuel up for your adventure because you're heading straight to the majestic Prague Castle! This historical compound opens its doors at 9am, so if you want to dodge the crowds make sure to arrive early. Explore the castle's beautiful interiors including the stunning St. Vitus Cathedral, St. George's Basilica and the charming little houses along Golden Lane. And don't miss the ceremonial Changing of the Guard at the castle gates!

Once you've soaked up the castle magic, stroll down to the less-frequented Vrtba Gardens. This place is quiet and provides picture-perfect views of Prague's famous red rooftops and the Vltava River. While in the neighborhood, grab some delicious pizza at San Carlo Mala Strana for lunch.

Now, head to the Church of our Lady Victorious and try to find the revered Infant Jesus, which many of Prague's souvenirs are modeled after. Take some time to admire the Baroque architecture and pay respects.

Alright, time to shop around the lovely Mala Strana neighborhood. Get lost in the labyrinth of narrow streets, filled with adorable boutiques and unique treasures! After, head to the rebellious side of Prague — the Lennon Wall. It is filled with colorful graffiti and messages of hope.

Now, take your time crossing the magnificent Charles Bridge. This architectural marvel houses beautiful statues, boisterous street performers and stunning views of the city. Make you way back and either walk or take the fun funicular ride up to Petrin Hill, where tranquility and natural beauty awaits. Take a leisurely stroll throughout the gardens before ascending Petrin Tower. From its lofty height, witness the sun bid adieu and tint the skyline a gorgeous orange with a 360-degree panoramic view.

To end your day and lovely visit to Prague, head to St. Martin's restaurant for a cozy dinner that is reminiscent of Greece followed by a final drink at Kellyxir - Alchemical Pub. Grab a quirky concoction served in test tubes and beakers to cap your night!

Before farewell, I will leave you will a few more tips:

  • Consider the Prague Card for major attractions and public transportation.

  • Wear comfortable shoes as Prague is filled with cobblestone streets and you will walk a lot.

  • Try the goulash.
