Day 1: The French Quarter

People roaming on the New Orleans street

Start your New Orleans adventure by checking in at the stunning art deco-inspired boutique hotel, The Eliza Jane, then get ready to dive into the heart of the city with a visit to the historic French Quarter. The Quarter is a feast for the senses, with stunning architecture that will transport you to another era.

Grab lunch at Central Grocery, birthplace of the classic muffuletta, and break your food coma with the famous powdered sugar-covered beignets at Cafe du Monde.

After lunch, indulge your curiosity at one of the many offbeat museums dotting the area, like the Museum of Death, the Pharmacy Museum (my personal favorite!), and the Voodoo Museum.

Keep the spooky vibes going with a psychic reading at Bottom of the Cup Tea Room and a spine-chilling ghost tour to uncover the secrets of the haunted Crescent City.

Day 2: History & culture

A beautiful concrete building with a lot of greenery in the balcony

Fuel up for the day with the complimentary breakfast at the hotel, then journey outside the city to the Whitney Plantation. This is the only former plantation tour in Louisiana telling its story from the perspective of the people who were enslaved there, and it’s now a non-profit dedicated to educating the public about the US’s legacy of slavery.

Once you return to the city, hop on the streetcar to the Garden District. Pick up a snack at District Donuts, or something more hearty at Turkey and the Wolf, and wander through the streets of colorful Creole mansions.

As evening approaches, I highly recommend experiencing a culinary masterpiece at Saba, with mouthwatering Israeli-Creole fusion like their incredible blue crab hummus.

Day 3: Museums & Cajun cooking

New Orleans 4-Day Itinerary - Day 3: Museums & Cajun cooking

Wake up and head straight to the Edgar Degas House, where you’ll be served breakfast and receive a tour of this former home of the renowned Impressionist painter.

Next, head to the Warehouse District and prepare to be wowed by the National World War II Museum—in my opinion, one of the most impressive and engaging in the world.

Immerse yourself in local culture with a Cajun cooking class at dinnertime, then let the good times keep on rolling back in the French Quarter with a stroll down the famous, music-filled Bourbon Street.

Swing by Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop for a nightcap, and you’ll be able to say you’ve been to the oldest bar in the US, built in the 1720s!

Day 4: Parks, music, and art

national park in New Orleans

On your final day, board an airboat in Jean Lafitte National Park to soak in the unusual beauty of the bayou—but watch out for alligators! Back on land, explore any other small museums that may have piqued your interest.

Satisfy your appetite at Dat Dog, renowned for its creative hot dogs with options for vegans and carnivores alike. There are several locations, but the one on Frenchmen Street is the perfect location to kick off a night of art and music! This vibrant stretch of the Faubourg Marigny neighborhood is filled with galleries, jazz clubs, and bars. Start at local favorite, The Spotted Cat, and see where the music and the night takes you!
